Movie Review: On Stranger Tides
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Basic Premise
Jack Sparrow is back and he is on the trail of the fountain of youth. His only issue is that the trail crosses Black Beard, the one pirate that all pirates fear.
Review
There is something at the very end of the credits that alludes to later movies. As I've said in other reviews, you paid for the movie so stay until the end.
This movie was good once you got past the first thirty minutes. I found it a little superfluous. That may just be me but I found the beginning annoying. Once Jack got to Black Beard's ship (basically once the plot of the movie started), everything moved along nicely and I enjoyed it.
If you've enjoyed the past Pirates, you will enjoy this one. There are a handful of recurring characters that seem like they will be staples through all of the movies. And, of course, there is Johnny Depp.
Parents, as I said above, if your kids watched the other Pirates movies then this one is more of the same so far as violence and such is concerned.
Previews
- Larry Crowne - This looks like a cute and very predictable movie. I might catch it on DVD, though the idea of Tom Hanks hooking up with Julia Roberts is kind of off to me. I guess I'll have to see the movie to see if it works.
- Zookeeper - Ah. I see now. They took one section of the second Dr. Dolittle movie (Eddie Murphy version) and reworked it into a movie all it's own. This is a complete pass.
- Transformers: Dark of the Moon - I still love watching this trailer. I'm sure I'll love the movie.
- Mr. Popper's Penguins - They took the Madagascar penguins bred with the Happy Feet penguins, made them live action CG, and then teamed them up with Jim Carrey. This looks cute. It also looks like a DVD rental.
- The Muppets - I feel the more recent muppet movies don't live up to the ones from the past. This is one example of that. I plan to miss it completely.
- Real Steel - This is the first time I've seen a full preview of this movie. I'm amazed to find out that it has a plot. I really want to see it now. It's a total underdog movie and everyone likes an underdog movie.
